10 horror short films that will keep you awake

horror-short-films

Taking advantage of the fact that Halloween is just around the corner and that there are two hours to midnight I bring you ten good horror short films for all those who love the genre. Notice that some of them are quite gloomy (especially those of the Swedish Sanberg who have particularly caught my attention).

Without more to say, then I leave you the inserted videos so that you can enjoy them directly without having to abandon this article. Enjoy them!

Lights Out (2013)

Of this selection he is the one that has impacted me the most and that is why I put him in first position. It is a simple but at the same time shocking and cutting short film that easily finds its place among the fears of any viewer. It has never been so scary for the lights to go out. Its author, like the last one on this list, is a Swede who is causing a sensation on social networks: David Sanberg.

Mom (2008)

Surely many of you have already seen the film of the same name and if you have not seen it I recommend it because it is not wasted. The origin of the film is in a short film by Andrés Muschietti, a director of Argentine origin, and from the outset he caught the attention of Guillero del Toro who immediately proposed to the creator to develop a film around 2013.

Curve (2003)

The history of this piece is quite curious and is that at first it saw light as a true document about an unexplained phenomenon. A woman, Teresa Fidalgo, appeared several times on a road in Portugal and caused an accident. The video appeared in all kinds of media, from news, social networks, and even conferences in which they tried to propose hypotheses and study the event, in fact many paranormal investigators claimed that it was a spirit. However, all these hypotheses gave way to what was an advertising campaign for a short film by director David Rebordao called "A Curva" and which contained the same images that had previously been spread as a real event. The truth is that he finally achieved certain recognitions, finishing second at the Lisbon Film Festival around 2003.

Bedfellows (2008)

This piece was directed and made specifically for the YouTube network and despite being short and simple, it stands out for its power and the technical quality with which it is executed. The ringing of the phone in the middle of the night has never been so scary. Your director? Drew Daywalt.

The Mother (2012)

From the hand of Beniwood Producciones appears this short film directed by Alberto Evangelio, who also worked on titles such as Doncella dormida or La cruz. Its reception on the Internet was remarkable and the synopsis does not specify much: "She never imagined that her son's nightmare would come true ..." I recommend that you do not investigate further and directly enter this brilliant work of approximately seven minutes because the truth is that it has no waste if you are lovers of the genre.

Don't Move (2013)

This film was born by the hand of Anthony Melton in the United Kingdom and its story is somewhat more elaborate than the rest of the shorts that we have mentioned. Their argument: Six friends release a demon while playing with the Ouija board. The entity is thirsty for blood but only attacks people when they are moving. Little by little he will tear them apart one by one between betrayals and deceptions.

Scary and Snowy (2013)

A very interesting Japanese version of the mythical legend of the girl on the corner. The video of the Autoway company tries to recreate a typical scene from Japanese horror cinema. Two men find themselves in the middle of a road in the middle of the night when they suddenly come across an image similar to that of a woman in the middle of the road. The result is eerie. The Japanese company seeks to demonstrate in its campaign how well its tires react in unexpected and dangerous moments.

Patient 655 (2013)

Winner of the international Fox Play Horror Month contest, and directed by Colombian Jaime Lince, it tells a rather original story that reflects the complexity of the human mind and how our emotions can disrupt our lives and create severe disorders in the face of irreparable losses.

Porcelain Rising (2013)

Tell a story with touches of fantasy and fiction. A porcelain doll terrifies a young woman and warns her that she needs to occupy a human body in order to come back to life. I don't know why but it reminds me of the arguments that were created around the nineties with series like Gosebumps. The director is Rachel Tatham.

Cam Closer (2013)

As I warned you at the beginning, we are going to close our list with another short film by David Sanberg with a structure very similar to the short film that occupies the first place: A simple story with fast and agile narration that creates authentic fear in its outcome. The story takes place today and in it we will see reality through the screen of a mobile phone that will show us quite unpleasant things. If you like the horror genre I am sure you will enjoy it.
