Andrew McCarthy is the astrophotographer who this time continues to amaze to the whole world for his excellent work in that particular field of photography. After dazzling us with a high-resolution image of 50.000 photos, he does it again with another job.

It was precisely with this project of the moon that he had the opportunity to create the color version of what the geological map of the moon shows. In total it takes the color data of more than 150.000 photos to bring a 64MP fine art photograph color of the moon.

This time, this image raises the Layers of the moon to reveal its hidden colors and thus contrast with that recent image that he published. Really what all those colors show is the material contained in the moon and what the moon would look like if our eyes were more sensitive to color.

Geology map of the moon

We went from the blue that indicates a high content of titanium to turn orange showing a basalt titanium-containing basalt. In other words, a geological image of the moon that indicates the richest minerals in the lunar environment with a more than dazzling image.

The original image was created using the photos shot on two cameras with one taking care of the halo of the stars, color and atmosphere, while the other took care of the surface details and the same texture.

The best of all is that you can download it as a file in JPG format which weighs 11 MB and other PNG which reaches up to 23 MB. It also has an online store where you can get impressions of that moon so vivid in colors and that includes a geological map of our satellite.
