7 typography tips for designers

8 typography tips for designers

At Smashing Hub they offer us 7 tips very important to take into account when choose the font for our designs, both web designs and designs for printing, stamping, etc ...

The choice of typeface is one of those decisions with which we can make our design a success or launch it into the most resounding failure.

In Smashing Hub they give us these 7 tips ... I would have them very handy to consult often or I would learn them by heart:

  • Readability: The letters are for reading, so make sure that the fonts you use can be read without problems.
  • Don't try to be innovative with fonts: Usually there are designers who try to be innovative with the fonts used and the result is quite bad. Play it safe.
  • Typefaces in line with the design: Make sure that the typography design and the design of the web image match, otherwise the aesthetics will not please and neither will the web.
  • Leave a little space for your instincts: Although I previously suggested that it was better to use fonts with proven success, there are times when it is good to try new fonts and take a chance.
  • Don't use too many different fonts: If your creativity allows you to, you can choose several font designs to use on your website, but if you are not trained, limit the number of fonts and play with sizes, colors, etc ...
  • Size does matter: As I said before, it is very important to use the font in different sizes to attract the attention of visitors to the most important texts.
  • The font color: The choice of font color is very important for web design. Legibility is the most important characteristic for a typeface but even if its design is fully legible, we can choose colors that contrast very little with the background and make it impossible to read the texts, be careful with this.

I hope these tips are useful to you and if you can think of any more that I can add, write them in the comments.
