Cyril Roland He is 28 years old and works as clinical psychologist for 6 years. He now lives in the south of France. My artistic approach is located between the surrealist style and fantasy, as he expresses in one word: Another world. He never took any art courses, because he has some notions of anatomy / perspective . He works with intuition to compensate for this lack of knowledge and to venture into colors.
When he started in November 2003, he used a mouse and Photoshop 7. In 2005, he bought a Wacom Graphire3 tablet. And Since 2007, I use Photoshop CS2 and since 2012, a Wacom Intuos4M tablet . He doesn't know how to draw on paper, but thinks he's just lazy to try this medium. Here we leave you a video of how it works.
The beginning :
He started drawing on the computer in late of 2003, making 'oekakies', trying to improve on this software and share their work with the community. He quickly understood that he was actually capable of drawing with a manga style.
Some months later , worked on 'photoreferences' and tried to perform the realism. He has worked with a mouse so he was quite limited, but he ran into the color issue and tried to play with the contrasts.
After the realism will not appeal to you, tried to play with him surrealism, changing the colors, adding fantasy elements o distort the physical rules.
Influences:
He is aware that his works are not within the scope of a high artistic wealth. Do not want to do beautiful things, but carrying out the difficulty to catch the emotional aspect in small rectangles, frozen, and colored planes.
Tim Burton and Hayao Miyazaki are both the roots of my own world. I like the surrealist movement, especially the work of Boris Vian and his dazzling foam (L'écume des jours - 1950). I like the absurd, creativity and charming universes, where colors bring more emotions than a thousand smiles or a million tears. I only paint what I would like to see, a funny reality, from another world.
Inspiration:
I admire the work of time, the evolution of societies, the change of thoughts, human revolutions. My characters are often lost children in his search for the truth (and not the truth). Their stories are sad enough, but the darkness of life is more exhilarating make people happy and safe, in my opinion.
A human being in the universe is a leaf from a giant tree, but this is a huge forest. Therefore, I have no complaint about my condition, even if life tastes strange sometimes.
But, I have feelings, I mean, I want to exist, I want to be different from the other leaves. I don't want to flood my difficulties with alcohol, run away with a drug, or anesthetize my brain by watching television. To exist, I paint, I use my feeling, my emotions, and sometimes I don't really know what I feel, maybe there is no word to translate what I feel. In conclusion, I can't create without using my moods.
Expression:
I am imaginative, so when I am bored with the world, I have fun with a parodic version of reality. An Eiffel Tower like a flower, a lake of champagne…. It tells a story, my story, my way of understanding the world, or what I could say about its uniqueness.
My works of art mark the different moments of my life. I want to express myself, like an art therapy. I want to carry out pain, joy and expectations. The colors are the main way to translate my feelings. I would like to add a lot of details, y I'm sure sometimes it's not necessary and the composition gets heavy, but this is an important part of a hieroglyph. More details, more the way to read the image, more the possibility of getting lost and finding yourself. There is no single way to read my work.
