London-based artist Rich McCor remodels iconic landmarks using paper cutouts

Some people have a need to transform famous monuments. Rich McCor does it with paper cutouts and photography. A trick with a simple perspective and some photo alignment is all you need to convert the Arc de Triomphe in a LEGO man. Or to give the Little Mermaid in Denmark a Seilfie stick.

McCormick caught the attention of Lonely Planet. "My first idea was using a cutout to transform Big Ben into a wristwatch." “While I was there, a girl and her father took an interest in what I was doing and showed them the photo on my camera screen. They were full of enthusiasm for the idea, and they encouraged me to do more. So I took pictures of St. Paul, the London Eye, Trafalgar Square, and while I was doing this, I decided to post them on my Instagram«.

I decided that I was going to become a tourist in my own city, to explore the monuments and the peculiar history. I started researching interesting monuments and started thinking about how I could photograph the sites in an original way.

My first idea was using a cutout to transform Big Ben into a wristwatch. While I was there, a girl and her father took an interest in what I was doing and showed them the photo on my camera screen.

Then one day Lonely Planet contacted me on Instagram, they liked what I did and wondered if I wanted to create some photos for them. Of course I said yes, and he took me to Stockholm, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Paris.
