"Cat Thing" a system of variable modules as a home for felines

Cat Thing is a collection of modules that allows you to build cardboard micro structures to generate a kind of playground or cat house. The «Rooms» collection was created in 2016 by a couple of architects who wanted to give their pets a home. For its development they investigated the design for cats, using the help of their pets Cacha and Lily.

With felines and their human friends in mind, the designers wanted to create a design stylish, harmonious and minimalist. It should be attractive to people and fun for animals. So, they looked for the style to be related to the modern living environment. To do this, they visualized a fun space that would allow pets to play, jump, hide and sleep.

How is it formed

The collection is made up of four geometric modules: room, living room, ramp and balcony. With these you can freely create any type of microstructure that serves as a house for the felines. The design took into account the properties of the paper based on the principles of origami. In this way, each module is created with connections that hold them to themselves and between them safely, without the use of tools or extra parts.

On the other hand, they were stamped geometric patterns on the faces of the modules. In such a way that by integrating all the pieces you can see a game of geometric shapes on the cardboard bases. These characteristics make the design have a friendly, avant-garde and aesthetic style.

Sustainable design

Besides thinking about animals, the collection has great environmental commitment. In this sense, all the product and packaging is recyclable and the inks used are non-toxic. In addition to it, seeks to minimize its use of material both for product and packaging. For example with the use of inserts instead of the use of extra pieces.
