Colored backgrounds

colored backgrounds

Colored backgrounds is not something that has been invented now. They have been around for a long time. However, these were relegated for a time by wallpapers, since the image, the designs, etc. prevailed. rather than using a background with a color (or shades of colors). Now they are back in fashion and for that reason, if you are a designer or you just like to be creative, it is time for you to know more thoroughly colored backgrounds.

But what are they? How are they made? What types are there?

What are colored backgrounds

What are colored backgrounds

The Colored backgrounds are bases, so to speak, made up of a range of colors. This can be unique, that is, a single color such as green, blue, red ... or also gradient tones or designs in which different colors are mixed and combined creating a unique design.

Sometimes what is done is to extract colors or shades of colors from fruits, from the sky, from flowers, from the sunset in such a way that, from an image, a portion of it is taken out that, in turn, forms a background color.

You can find many types on the Internet, but the truth is that you can also create the colored background effect yourself with an image editing program.

Making a list of the types of colored backgrounds would be almost impossible, especially since there are so many to name. Usually, classification is done with respect to color or design. For example, if it is based on color, you would have backgrounds in warm, neutral and cold colors; or solid colors and pastels. You can also find gradient, blurred or smooth backgrounds.

And some very fashionable right now are the Aesthetic style colored backgrounds.

Vintage backgrounds, futuristic backgrounds ... Actually there is a whole world within this type where what really prevails is color, there are no figures, no images, but only shades of color (one or more).

How to make a colorful background

How to make a colorful background

If you prefer to be more original and creative in your designs and projects and you want to create a colored background from scratch, then we are going to tell you what are the steps you should take. For this, we use Photoshop, since it is one of the most used programs by professionals and designers. But basically in all image editing programs you are going to have the same (or similar) steps to get the result you want.

In this case, the steps to take are:

  • Open the Photoshop program. You need to ask me to create a new document for you. In this case, the measurements are up to you, but if you don't have anything defined, it is best to choose the size 1920 x 1080 pixels. Set the background layer to black instead of white.
  • Now that you have the image, you need to create a new layer. To do this, Layers / New layer. Call that one "yellow" and with the brush tool begin to paint a little over it. But you don't have to fill it all in, just a part of that layer.
  • Create another new layer and name it blue. Do you know what you are going to do? With the brush tool, and the color blue, paint another piece of the layer, one where it does not hide the yellow, or at least not completely.
  • Keep creating layers of different colors and painting until the design is complete.
  • Once you are done, you will have to combine all the layers. To do this: Layer / Smart Objects / Convert to Smart Objects.
  • Then go to Edit / Transform / Warp. This will allow you to change the design a bit, either lengthening, shortening or moving as you want.
  • Once you are satisfied, go to Window / Settings / Levels. Increase the contrast by raising Black and White and check the option that what you have changed also applies to the rest of the layers.
  • Lastly, duplicate the layer and, in blending mode, set it to Overlay. For a better effect, you can consider changing the background layer to a dark blue one. And ready!

Obviously this is just one way. There are actually many ways to make colored backgrounds, and it's best to try. Still, let's go for a gradient now.

Gradient colors background

El Gradient colored background is another technique for creating backgrounds. To do this, two colors are usually used in the palette (primary and secondary color) and it is applied, with the gradient tool, in the desired direction.

The steps are:

  • Open a document with the measurements you want. If you don't have a preference, go for a big one, 1920 x 1080 pixels. With white background.
  • Now, in the tools menu, locate the paint pot. However, if you press a bit, you will see that it gives you a second option, degraded. Click there.
  • Next, you have to go to the color palette where you have configured the foreground and background colors. Change each one for the color you want.
  • Finally, you just have to click on a point in the document and move to another point (usually from top to bottom, from bottom to top, or sideways). A line will be created that goes from one point to another and, when you release the mouse button, you will see that, automatically, the gradient will be generated.

Of course, you can also experiment and, with the gradient, you get a small menu in the upper part of Photoshop where you can choose different gradients as well as gradient styles, its blending mode, opacity as well as others details that can change the whole result.

What if I just want a one-color background?

Finding colored backgrounds of a single color is very easy. But it could be that the tonality you want is not, therefore, to create it, nothing is as easy as:

  • Open a document in Photoshop (with the measurements you want). Leave the background blank.
  • Go to the tools section and point to the paint pot. In front color choose the color you want and with the mouse click on a point of the blank document.
  • It will automatically turn to the color you have marked. So you will have that background of the color you wanted.

Now it's your turn, would you like to create good colored backgrounds?
