Combine titles and textures with Photoshop

Texture

If you want to know how create titles with textures or even images to give a creative touch to your titles, keep reading, we will tell you how to get it easily using Photoshop.

The letters can be combined with textures made by ourselves, downloaded from the Internet or with images of all kinds. In this tutorial we will learn to give it a personal touch to our texts.

Handmade textures

It is very interesting create our own textures manually, we can use crayons, colored pencils, paint, pastels or any drawing tool. The reliefs that remain can be scanned and in this way we will get apply texture graphically to our visual resources.

Example texture

The first step is create or select texture. When we have it scanned we will proceed to open it with Adobe Photoshop. Remember that not just any image will do, quality should be minimal so that we do not have pixels.

We create a new layer for text, we can write what we want. Keep in mind that the thicker the letter, the more texture we can apply. When we have the text we will place it in the desired position.

Organize the layers

Before applying the effect we must organize layers. Therefore, the image or texture layer should be above the text layer. It is important that this cover all text.

Next, with the image layer selected we will go to the top menu and follow this path: Layer - Create Clipping Mask. We will immediately get the effect. We can move the image through the text until the space we want is displayed.

Final result

What fonts are the most suitable?

Everything will depend on the result we are looking for, but as we have commented previously, the thicker and the better the size. One trick is to choose the “bold” or “extrabold” weight. Some interesting fonts could be the following:

  • arial black
  • Montserrat Extrabold
  • helveltica
  • Lucida Bright (Serif)

The result is very attractive and without a doubt, brings a lot of personality to our design. They can apply a different texture to each of the letters. There is a wide range of options!
