creative calligraphy

Creative calligraphy is one of the passions of many people who love good handwriting. A technique that invites us to write and draw all the letters of the alphabet with a very particular style. There are different books in which you can put this technique of drawing letters into practice, which with various activities will make the learning process much more enjoyable.

Not only are we going to learn what creative calligraphy is in this publication, but we will also help you differentiate its main characteristics, the materials needed to make it, etc. Both in lettering, as in artistic calligraphy or typography, the main objective is to transmit through the use of text in a creative way.

What is creative calligraphy?

We understand by creative calligraphy, the technique used to write words or texts. Referring to the design sector, calligraphy can be associated with beautiful, harmonic and striking shapes. In other words, it is a trend that I have appreciated several years ago and which has stayed with us, resulting in detailed, original and aesthetic designs.

Learning to use this technique that we are talking about is perfect for designs such as invitations, postcards, posters, etc. It is a good ally, if we want to develop our most creative side and new skills.

We are not going to deceive you, you are not going to master creative calligraphy from one day to the next, it is a process that takes time and requires constant work and some skill. There are multiple tools with which to learn this technique, depending on the level you have.

What materials do creative calligraphy work with?

It should be noted that in order to create creative calligraphy, any material that we have at our disposal is suitable.  The most important thing to be able to start with this design technique is to be able to create a calligraphy that is uniform and in harmony between the different characters.

We advise you to search for a typeface that is attractive to you, that you like, and from there begin to apply the creative calligraphy we are talking about. You can start with wooden paints, pens, markers, etc.

At present, it should be noted that there are specialized calligraphy materials such as fine tip markers, pens, special inks, brush tip markers, etc. Remember that each of these materials is not only going to make a different path, but each one of them has its trick to take it and work.

What movements do I have to do in calligraphy?

As we all well know, each of the fonts that we can find today, have a wrist movement that is done differently, in addition to the fact that as we have indicated before, the way in which we take the object with which we draw it is not the same.

Even so, there are a series of similar basic rules for the elaboration of creative calligraphy, such as the following:

  • We have to control the force with which we write. You will have to learn to play with this force to achieve different paths
  • Learn to pick up writing material. There is a way to take your tool and this must be, in the middle and above all, leave the wrist loose. Depending on the letter you are making, it should be more lying down or straight.
  • Be careful with the materials you use. As we have mentioned before, you can use any material, but not all of them will give you good results. Specialized calligraphy pens are very simple and comfortable to use.

Remember that creative calligraphy consists of writing words or texts manually, always taking into account the writing direction and speed. In one of the books that we have mentioned before, they define the concept of creative calligraphy as; «Tracing that goes up, finite; path that goes down, chubby ». Do not hesitate and get books or courses that help you better understand this design technique, and above all to get down to work.
