Design for clients or design for designers?

work in graphic design

Master a knowledge area it is definitely a satisfactory fact for a person and much more if this is corroborated by a university institute or university. In any case, it is a very exciting experience and in that sense, encouraging the practice of the area to which we have decided to render accounts with our valuable time. Definitely, certification is just the beginning of an infinity of experiences that could even give us more learning than we acquire in college.

Now, the clash of realities carries a difference by default, which in most cases, can be somewhat bitter but necessary for our professional practice. Is about the preparation offered and for which the university predisposes us and the preparation that the street offers us (so to speak).

What do you choose?

Design for our clients or design for designers

This article will talk about the dilemma that may exist in the graphic design exercise at the time of carrying out our work and at the time of satisfying the demands of our clients. ¿Design for our clients or design for designers? It is primarily the dilemma addressed in this article.

El graphic design professional is in his first moment, his first job and he is more than anxious about his first jobs to do, because finally you can apply all the knowledge that he acquired during his training.

As you work and dispatch clients, you find that most of the time, the client ignores the rules of graphic design (Veiled by the designer) and what he is really interested in is seeing his abstraction captured on a screen or paper. And this does not end here, well the company itself will respond responsively before this.

"Customer is King”Will be the motto of the company, in the quest to attract customers in the best possible way to your business. This, obviously, will not respond in a satisfactory way for the designer's work, because, then, it is about the importance of customer satisfaction, it is even about the potential for customer satisfaction to override the designer's parameters, in order to attract more customers to the business.

This reality not so nice for the designer and ultimately very sweet for the client, it is one reason that this contrast is so hard for the professional. It may be hard but not necessarily the only destination of designers. It is in part a matter of acceptance and also a matter of reformation within the principles of the designer. Is about think largely about the customer and their satisfaction more than our rules as designers. In a nutshell, focus on our client's demands and as illogical as these may be, try to cover them as much as possible.

From one point of view, it can be very tragic and yes, having to respond to the demands of a person who is not considering our word to the extent that we consider it intervening it can be quite exhausting.

What is the solution? What can we do in this situation?

know how to define our clients

It is a matter of know how to define our clientsIt is about understanding them, thinking that they are the ones that somehow dominate the theoretical framework corresponding to the elaboration of designs, this being essential.

An example of this can be music and it is that if we are playing for heavy metal lovers, the most convenient thing will be to delight them with a good piece of that genre, even if we are the experts in music and dominant of that practice, we know that this will ultimately allow us to receive good profits. It is then about knowing how to deal with the masses of customers, through knowledge of their demands and considerations about the product.

Design for our clients can be a good practice and that is that we will find out what the typical preferences of our consumers. We will be aware of the most valued in our market, taking into account that at some point we will have the opportunity to develop as the professionals that we are.

Congratulations on the article, I would say that one of the few (if not the only one) that has put ALL the accents (I'm sick of the mediocrity of things that are written without the slightest detail to the rules, especially in feisbul and tuitel). But if the form is very good, the background is better, excellent article, it has happened to all of us, nothing better that fits your vision with that of the client, and although it should not happen, when the client is at the antipodes and their criteria is manifestly There is room for improvement, I cannot avoid working with the autopilot, it is not frustrating, you just have to see the positive side, a job that demands little from you and is extremely satisfied with the client. Anyway, this job is a constant learning process and there are times when someone “from outside” has to come so that we can see our failures or even learn things from people completely outside the sector.

In my years as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator, one deals with different types of clients, there are those who give you creative freedom and make very specific annotations, with which it is a pleasure to work and there are others especially at this time who give you a I work and they feel like designers, with whom it is very difficult to work, that's why I say: THE CUSTOMER IS NOT ALWAYS RIGHT, with respect to whether it is Designed for Designers, there we would be fatal to think like that, because in the Designers' union you you meet with each genius who feels the last Coca-Cola of the desert…. But for me, being a Graphic Designer is one of the best job you can have, because it is not a monotonous job and the brain is always searching to give the client the satisfaction of A JOB WELL DONE !!
