What do fish think about? illustration project

Fish Memory is an illustration project by Amaya Uscola

What do fish think about? It is a peculiar question that few of us have asked ourselves, but… what will fish really think? Will they have our same thoughts? these questions were answered by artist / designer Amaya Uscola

Without a doubt it is an interesting project that arose from what we call the artists "personal projects" of her own idea the artist ended up creating a fantastic illustration project. If you are passionate about illustration and alternative books, you cannot miss this project.

All artists have one thing in common, we love to create personal projects of all kinds with the excuse of filling the portfolio when in reality we create because we can't stop bringing out all our ideas, and this was the beginning of the illustrated project Memoirs of Pez by Amaya Uscola. A day like any other started to draw fish and thinking about whether they thought or not, according to her the fish have thoughts and different moodsBased on this thought, she began adding snacks to her fish with thoughts that she imagined.

Fish thoughts in a picture book

One day a message arrives encouraging her to challenge in Instagram for illustrators in which should draw something every day, Amaya decides to draw a fish every day in her notebook. Every day I drew with a simple pen a different fish, didn't need to do no kind of previous sketch because he simply drew whatever came to mind. Next to each fish he added a short description about the species and a thought of each type of fish.

Fish Memory is a unique artist's book

His work process began in London where I buy a small notebook of about 12 × 16 with colored sheets, in this free he began to draw everything that occurred to him every day. It is interesting to note that the illustrator I do not use the computer at any time To touch up your illustrations, they are all made by hand.

One day in a meeting they saw his fish book and decided without a doubt that it should be published, they were so fascinated with Amaya's fish that they decided reproduce the notebook exactly the same using the same format, the same colors for the paper and the original drawings without retouching by computer.

Today the book can be fished (bought) online from different pages of the artist. If you would like to have a paper fishbowl in your hands, you only have to access this web site.

What do the fish think?

A good promotion

For promote the editorial project a video was created where it looked like the book came to the seashore, it's quite interesting highlight the importance of this video as it fully represents the essence of the project. Without a doubt, creating this type of initiative represents a adding value both for the promotion of the product and for the personal project itself as it is an advance on the original idea.

You can also see a small video about an exhibition which took place in Barcelona where the original drawings and the book were shown.

Use the networks to promote our work

Holding an exhibition is interesting for all those artists who want to promote and reach a larger audience, a good idea when doing a public exhibition It is trying to appear in some informational medium, whether printed or digital. We must not forget the power of social media and the ability they have to reach more people, it is highly recommended take pictures and own videos to have direct advertising of all the exhibitions we do.

  • Expose publicly our work
  • Try go out in some public medium (printed or digital)
  •  Record Videos during the exhibition to have personal direct mail

It’s interesting to see how a simple idea becomes something very big able to go anywhere, the strength of the artist have no limits when an idea gets into his head. What was a notebook with illustrations became a personal and unique editorial project. Artists and creators in general, always remember save your sketchbooks and ideas because at some point they may come out swimming like this fish book.
