'Pine Forest', an oil painting by Ivan Shishkin

Shishkin

After passing before three great painters of photorealism, it was time to find the oil painting of a painter who had a great passion for its forest landscapes and that in all his work stands out the poetic description of the different seasons of the year in the woods and in the fields.

A Russian painter who based his work on analytical studies of nature and to this day we can contemplate the great results of those years in which he spent painting landscapes near his home in the village of Vyra, south of Saint Petersburg. A work that we can see in the header image plus many others of enormous quality.

A quite prolific painter who has hundreds of jobs in which the majority are trees and forest scenes as the common denominator. A Russian artist that we can add to Isaac Levitan as the best in portraying nature in the different seasons, although each one in his own style.

Some works in which we can focus on the details of each of the trees, the shadows or the dark glades that surround the forest. A very precise work full of pictorial moments of great technical quality.

His work belongs to the public domain, since we are talking about a painter who died in 1898. Shiskhin belonged to the Itinerant Painters and the Russian Society of Watercolorists. He also became a member of the Imperial Academy itself, where he would be a professor of painting from 1873 until his death. Another of his works was carried out from the direction of the landscape painting workshop at the Saint Petersburg Higher School of Art.

If you ever pass through Saint Petersburg, its most complete collections are exhibited currently in the Russian Museum and the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
