How to create brushes in Photoshop

drawing in photoshop

On the Internet we can find an infinity of brushes created by other users that we can download for free. It may be that you have ever felt the curiosity or the need to create your own brushes.

In this tutorial I am going to explain some simple steps you must follow to create your brushes personalized

Before starting to create our brush It is very important that we know what the use of our brush is going to be used for. For example, we can create brushes with our own signature to implement it in the images, we can also create brushes that simulate the strokes of real brushes or pencils or that simulate hair, etc ...

  1. To begin with, the first thing we must do is create a new document. You are going to give this document some measurements that give you a square format. In this case, I'm going to work with a 1000 x 1000 px document.

New document creation

  1. The next step that we are going to carry out will consist of draw the shape we want our brush to have. It is very important that we work on this document in black and white so that the final result we obtain will be like a negative, which is how the brushes are displayed in the Photoshop brushes panel. That said, for the shape that we are going to draw we will choose black or some gray color.

  1. The last step, once we have defined or painted the shape that our brush will have, is to create the brush and make it appear in our Photoshop brushes panel. For this, what we must do is go to edit> define brush value. A window will open in which we are going to name our brush. We give it to ok and you will see how when you open the Photoshop brushes panel, at the end of everything you will find the brush that you have created.

set brush value

With these simple steps you have already created your custom brush. Surely, when you select the brush you have created, you will get a very large preset size, for this you must paint with the brush in a smaller size and, apart, To never lose this brush that you have created, what you have to do is go to the little arrow that appears at the top left next to the brush tool (as shown in the image marked in red), a panel will open in which we will click on the thread icon (marked in yellow in the image) and we will select the new tool preset option. A window will open in which we will define the name of our brush. In this way, if we ever restore the brush panel or update the photoshop version, we will never lose our brush or the preset size.

Now, if your intention is to create a brush that simulates the strokes of a real tool, such as a pencil, what you should do is open the brush options and start playing with the options that Photoshop offers you in order to find the most optimal result for what you want to do. Once you have found the result you are looking for, you simply have to go back to edit> define brush value. Then you can follow the step explained in the previous paragraph to save your brush with the options you have chosen and never lose it.

Hello how are you Look at me yesterday in the same way that you explained it. I created a brush with my signature logo, the problem is that it does not allow me to select "define brush value", I do not understand how it left me until yesterday and not today, and the truth is I am urged to do it and I don't know how, I do everything the same as yesterday and the same way you and other users explain on YouTube ... in forums I have already seen how it happens to quite a few people ... that this option comes and goes and allows you or not to use it Photoshop itself at will ... hopefully it can help me.

A greeting and thank you very much.
