How to make a brochure

How to make a brochure

Have you ever been commissioned a brochure? Did you do it the first time or did you have to change things because the client didn't like them? Do you know how to make an acceptance brochure the first time?

If you want to have the bases to make a winning brochure, that no client can turn you back, then you have to take a look at what we have prepared for you.

what is a brochure

what is a brochure

A brochure can be conceptualized as a text that is printed in a certain way, usually on small sheets of different formats and whose use is advertising. Before, these brochures were delivered by hand or were available at the reception of the companies. But now they have also started to be distributed by post or even via email, in digital format.

The most common is the rectangular brochure divided into three parts, a total of 6 sides of text and images; the so-called triptychs. Although you can also take the diptychs.

Aspects to consider in a brochure

Aspects to consider in a brochure

When making a brochure, you have to take into account some essential aspects, that is, elements that you must take into account and that appear in all brochures, yes or yes. Without that information, creating one is next to impossible, or you'll end up failing and not getting all the benefit you hope to get.

Do you want to know what is needed?

Choose the theme of your brochure

Imagine you have a company. This company wants to make itself known to potential investors. And you decide that in your brochure you are not only going to talk about the company, who forms it, the services, objectives... but also how they can work in the company.

And now we ask you, is an investor interested in asking for a job in your company? The most normal thing is that, when they reach that point, and see that it is information that is useless to them, they discard the idea.

It is very important to be clear about the target audience you are going to address because only then will you be able to know what type of information you should put in the brochure.

And yes, we are talking about text. You need a text document in which everything you want to put is framed. It will be laid out later, but having the information, it will be easier to work with it.

Images

Always quality. There are those who mix images with vectors, to animate certain lists or points. There is no problem in doing it as long as it is not abused too much.

The use of images relieves seeing only text, and also makes it more eye-catching.

Social networks / Contact / Logo

An important point, and that many forget, is to place the company's logo (normally on the front and back covers) as well as the form of contact and/or social networks so that people can locate them.

What information is essential? Company name, website, social networks, WhatsApp (if available), email and telephone.

With this you will be giving users a way to contact you if they have been interested in the information inside the brochure.

How to make a brochure that anyone wants to have

How to make a brochure that anyone wants to have

In the previous point we could have also told you about a good editing or layout program to make brochures but the truth is that, as there are so many and it is so easy to find applications and websites that help you design it, we have overlooked it.

With what we have told you, you will have everything you need to get down to work, whether you lay it out in Word, in Photoshop or with a mobile application.

Let's go with the steps you must take?

Edit the text document

We start with the most complicated, and what will take you the most hours. And it is that the information that you have put in that document may be too extensive for the brochure, and it must be summarized. But, in addition, it must be made readable for users.

What do we mean? Well, we need it to have an impact, to serve so that they don't forget 30 seconds after reading it. For this, copywriting and storytelling are essential.

Establish what the parts of the brochure will be

In case you do not know, the brochure has several important parts that are the following:

  • Cap holder. It is what we could call the cover and it is the one that has to make the best impression if you want them to open it.
  • Internal headlines. They are subtitles that seek to organize information and at the same time attract attention.
  • Text. The part of quality, summarized and that manages to connect with the reader.
  • Images. Placed along the text to make it less heavy.
  • Closing logo. It would be the back cover and, like the cover, it also has to leave a “good taste in the mouth”.

We recommend that you make a sketch distributing each of the parts to see how everything would look before starting to design it.

time to design

In fact, there are many programs that can help you do this, from the simplest ones like Microsoft Word or Google Docs to the most complicated ones like Adobe inDesign, LucidPress, Photoshop...

You must take into account the type of brochure you are going to design, especially to distribute the information in such a way that, folded, each one of it makes sense.

At this point the design can be carried out through templates (both free and paid) or starting from scratch. If you have experience, this second one gives you more freedom and you can create different designs; with the first you will be more limited to space, size of images and design.

When designing, you must take into account the following:

  • Do not use more than two or three colors. Minimalism is the best because if you put too many colors at the end, people scatter or it's so flashy that they won't like it.
  • Do not use more than two fonts. For the same; you will lose personality by using several. Use one for titles and subtitles and one for text.
  • Let the brochure breathe. With this we want to tell you not to overload it. It is important that you leave space in the design so that people do not see too much information and become overwhelmed (and not read it).

Always, always, always... print

Before printing a good number of brochures, it is essential that you print one, even from a home printer. The objective is to check that all the information is correct, that nothing is cut by the margins or folds and that everything is well organized.

Once you do, you can present it to the client or send it to final printing.

Is it now clear to you how to make a brochure?
