How to put italics, bold or strikethrough in WhatsApp

how to cursive

Although many users do not use it due to ignorance, riding a Whatsapp there is the possibility of adding different formats to our conversations. These formats are basic, such as when using Word-style office tools. In this article we are going to teach you how to put italics, bold or strikethrough in Whatsapp so that your conversations are more professional.

These formats are useful when you want to highlight your message in a group, where any message is lost among hundreds. It also serves to make broadcasts or speak in a more professional environment, where spelling rules have to be compulsorily complied with.

There are two different ways to do it and we are going to see both. One will be to add symbols (programming code style), but there are also visual elements as in text documents.

Write each of the codes

We are going to explain each of the codes that you have to write, depending on how you want to express your message. These codes need to go both at the beginning and at the end of whatever you want to describe, either in bold or italics. This mechanism is very simple. since you can do it from the same keyboard of the mobile, using the button of the numbering or format of our telephone.

  • write with italics: In the sentence that you are going to place, both at the beginning and at the end, we must put an underscore. As follows _example text message_
  • Write bold text: Again, in the same sentence, we put at the beginning and at the end, but this time it will be an asterisk. As follows *sample text message*
  • Write strikethrough text: We place the phrase this time between two symbols called virgulillas. This symbol is that of the letter Ñ. As follows ~sample text message~
  • We can also write in monospace: Here we will have to write the tilde in open at the beginning and at the end so that it comes out. As follows «`example text message«`

These functions also allow us to see in real time how our text message will look. Once we put our closing signs in the message, we can see how it will look before sending it. In this way we can correct it before it is sent and correct what we believe did not turn out as expected.

Do it through a dropdown menu

without code

Many users use different keyboard styles, so they can make it difficult for you to include the symbols we have seen above. Since some are themed or include other types of images in some parts of the keyboard, which can be more troublesome when looking for each symbol. Since you will have to look for the symbol, write the message and look for the same symbol again to close.

As follows you can just place any of the styles that we have taught you, simply by clicking on the message. Whether on Android or iOS, the way is very similar.

  • On Android: We will write the message that we want to place a style and we will press on any of the words that are inside the message. This will select a word for you. If in your case, you want to highlight more than one word, you will have to drag this indicator, so that everything is covered by the format. Once you have it, You will see a drop-down that indicates: Bold and Italics. To see the other options you will have to click where it says "More". There you will see Strikethrough and monospaced.
  • On iOS: In the same way as in Android, we will have to write the text, point by holding down the word we choose or the phrase and In the drop-down menu we will see indicated, as follows: B_I_U. These are the English formats, which stand for Black (bold), Italic (italics) and Underline (Underlined). To see the rest, click on the three dots to see crossed out and monospaced.

In the same way we can do it through WhatsApp Web, through the codes that we have written before, since this time it would be the only way to write it.
