The designer that we are going to mention in this article is one who, in short, I set a tone in the world of design, in addition to being recognized as the first renowned female designer. His name was Cipe Pineles, a woman who was basically characterized by being the first to hire visual artists to illustrate publications, as well as successfully entering the New York directors' hall of fame.

Despite being born in Austria, she was considered the first recognized woman in graphic design in the United States. Besides this, She was the director of many recognized magazines in the United States and participated in the creation of certain aspects within the Lincoln Center.

The impact of Cipe was very great, because entered the world of graphic design when it was very rare finding women within it, which is why any graphic designer, today, recognizes her as an inspiration and a founder of the new generation of graphic designers.

In the thirties was captured by two of the largest couture magazines in the world: Vogue and Vanity Fair and this was due to his good photography and illustration skills, in addition to the fact that I remove the label of "decoration magazines" from these two magazines.

This catapulted the magazines to success and respect, especially because Pineles used European modernism to make the different illustrations. Not only this, but also was in charge of redesigning the size of the texts, so now they were much smaller, simpler and could be located anywhere on the page.

It began to leave the established limits and what before seemed a mold was now a space in which one was free to do anything. For example, margins were no longer respected and haute couture photographs were now replaced by simple images, but at the same time very deep and creative.

Figurative Typography

Therefore, both magazines owe their renown to this designer. One of the techniques that Cipe used was called "figurative typography." This type of technique is still used, but by the XNUMXs it was something totally new. With this technique, photographs were no longer placed around the texts, but only objects or simple images referring to it were superimposed on the margins.

With this technique, Pineles also manipulated the content, and changed the letters, scratched them, ripped them, etc ... in order to create a visual game with the readers that, in short, gave good enough results to make both magazines successful and that the technique was keep up to this day.

Surrealism was another of the things that this famous designer used and made incredible works that, today, can still be appreciated. Altering the letters of the texts, images that were reflected, oriental symbols, figurative typography and others were the elements that the artist used.

Even though he is no longer physically present, his job still holds and continues to be an inspiration within the world of graphic design, regardless of the gender of the designer.
