The most practical Photoshop shortcuts for Windows

Computer keyboard

When we spend too many hours working with graphic design applications and especially when we are involved in very laborious projects that require the constant alternation of different tools, it is very useful to know shortcuts (You may also find this collection of shortcuts for designers). Thanks to them, we will save a lot of time and our work will be much more agile and productive.

Here we share with you the most practical Photoshop commands:

Tools: You should know that most tools are associated with the initial of their name in English, knowing this for sure that it is much easier for you to remember:

  •  Move tool: V
  •  Rectangular Marquee Tool:M
  • Polygonal lasso: L
  • Magic wand: W
  • Crop Tool: C
  • Dropper: I
  • Spot correction brush: J
  • Brush: B (To change the size of our brush, just press Ctrl + click on the right button of our mouse and slide it to the left or right). Also with the «,»Or«.»We can modify the size and even the type of brush. We can also intervene in the softness of our brush (Shift+D to reduce it by 25% and Shift+[ to increase it also by 25%). To alter the opacity of our brush, all we have to do is press the numeric keys (from 1 to 0) and to work on your flow Shift + number keys from 1 to 0).
  • Cloner buffer: S
  • History Brush: Y
  • Draft: E
  • Paint pot: G
  • Overexpose: O
  • Feather: P
  • Horizontal Text: T
  • Path selection: A
  • Ellipse: U
  • Hand: H
  • Zoom: Z

Tool groups: There are also groups of tools, for example the rectangular frame brings together different possibilities. How do we select the different tools that are within this group quickly? The procedure is very simple. To do this we must select the key Shift + the letter associated with said group of tools. For each time we press the shift key we will be selecting a different tool. In Photoshop we have 17 groups of tools and they are all accessed in the same way.

Colors: To exchange the front color for the rear and vice versa, we only have to press the key X and to restore the default colors (front black color and rear white color) press the key D.

Menus: Actually, many of the shortcuts in these menus can be impractical because in reality many of their options are generally not used regularly, so I recommend that you learn those that you use frequently.

  • File: Personally, I use the command with some frequency Ctrl + N (to create a new file), Ctrl + O (to open a file),  Ctrl + W (to close the window), Ctrl + S (a good way to save our document in an agile way, it can save us from any unforeseen event) and Ctrl + P (to print our file).
  • Edition: When we do any work in Photoshop it is common that we make mistakes and that is why it is very important to know the Undo shortcut (Ctrl+Z), Redo (Shift + Ctrl + Z) and step back (Alt+Ctrl+Z). Also the classics of Cortar (Ctrl+X), Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl + V). The fill command may also be useful (Shift+F5) through which we can tint our layer / layer mask automatically, and the transform tool (Ctrl + T [+ Shift to transform in a proportional way]).
  • Image: From this menu it would be interesting to master shortcuts to apply Automatic Tone (Shift + Ctrl + L), Auto contrast (Alt + Shift + Ctrl + L) y Auto Color (Shift + Ctrl + B).
  • Cap: Especially when we finish our compositions we usually combine our layers, we can access this option by pressing Ctrl + E. Also group them in Ctrl + G  and ungroup them with Shift + Ctrl + G.
  • Selection: We can select our entire canvas by pressing Ctrl + A, Deselect in Ctrl + D and invest our selection in Ctrl + I.
  • View: To increase our zoom we will use ctrl++ and to reduce it Ctrl + -.

Have we left any in the inkwell? Do you recommend any other tips or shortcuts for Photoshop on Windows? This classification is subjective because not all of us work with the same procedures, if you consider any other command important Tell us through a comment.
