Is there a limit to creativity when designing a minimalist logo?

Limit minimalist logo

The logos that you will find in this post are part of a 1970 design book. Surely you may have been confused with the two in the header image, reminiscent of Flipboard, a news reading app, and Beats, a brand well recognized for its great headphones.

When designing a minimalist logo we can find that, after devising the concept and transferring it to a design program, we realize that it looks a lot like that logo of a certain brand. So we can reach a limit in the imagination or creativity to come up with a logo that puts the accent on minimalism.

If we look at art or even in the world of animation, geniuses like Chuck Jones, Warner animator and renowned for drawing like nobody else the comics of Tweety and other characters, copied Harold Loyd, considered one of the great comedians in history. Maybe copy is not the right verb, but it was inspired by the multitude of sketches of this great comedian, to finally give him his own style, something that made the great animator of Warner, in itself become something unique .

We now look at minimalism in logo design, and we can go back to find what inspired designers of the 70s. And more in this area in which there is a tendency to reduce to the essentials and to strip away excess elements, as shown in Wikipedia when it defines this style so in vogue.

So we find some limits to that supposed infinite imagination that a logo designer must possess and that must confer to create that special design. We may find ourselves before a finite number of solutions, but in that special touch and detail, we find what differentiates us, as happened with Loyd and Jones.

As always, I leave you with another contribution from another entrance related to logos.
