More than 300.000 toothpicks to create these amazing urban structures

Bob morehead

Bob Morehead is a self-taught artist that he has been able to create these labyrinthine and intricate cityscapes with nothing more and less than wood glue and a few toothpicks; well, not a few, like more than 300.000 he has used to create them.

Each of those pieces weigh about 22 kilos and they measure almost eight feet. Bob's Toothpick City consists of ten of those unique buildings that contain a large pile of floors and rooms and are connected by different stairs. The windows allow you to take a look inside the buildings, although it is on their exterior facade that we find all their details.

Those details go through bricks, panels and ledges that make up streets, tunnels and all that great variety that takes us before a miniature metropolis. Some have even taken the pleasure of creating a breakwater made of 750 individual blocks, with each one of them well detailed.

Morehead did not use no type of mold or form to perform this work. He has only used his imagination with great inspiration from the architecture he has seen on the Amalfi Coast, near Naples, where he was born. It is the same one who quotes his thought about his art:

«I believe that all artists, at one time or another, they are so discouraged who finally give up on abandoning their art. When you have grown up thinking that creating art is not a real job because of the people around you, they do not understand or appreciate its real value. For me creating is like oxygen. I can't survive without it; it is part of my being and my soul. "
