One of the best movie credits of recent times

I don't know if you have seen the movie or not "Catch me if you can (2002)" by Steven Spielberg but if you haven't seen it, I recommend it. It is a very good film based on real events and starring two great actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.

But I am not here to tell you about the film but about its credits. For me, they are one of the best film credits, not only visually but also because they explain what the film is about, they tell a story.

This sequence of titles sets the era, style and tone of the film's narrative making use of retro graphics to the rhythm of jazz composed by the legendary John Williams that gives it a fun and nostalgic air at the same time.

These credits were designed by a French couple, Olivier Kuntzel and Florence Deygas, that were inspired by the title sequences that Saul Bass made. According to his own confession, what this French couple wanted, was to incorporate design by hand de Saul Bass, his strokes and textures, using current media and the latest technologies modern.

For those who do not know, Saul Bass was a renowned graphic designer, known for his work in the film industry and designing some of America's most important corporate identities.

According to designer Kuntzel, it was the same Spielberg who asked him for the credits to have that 60's look “At that time titles were always graphic animations. Spielberg wanted the sequence to place the viewer in that period and at the same time introduce them to the story ”.

Currently, these two artists who created these credits have a studio called Kuntzel + Deygas dedicated to furniture design, illustration, fashion and animation.

Here is a little bit about the biography of these two artists:
