With the advent of COVID-19We have all had to share space with a new member, who until now, it was not very peculiar to have him in our lives. A new member who has come to stay without a doubt and who has many shapes, colors, designs and materials.

Surely you already have an idea of what we are talking about. Indeed, masks have been and are being the protagonists of this new normal that we are living. Our goal is not to tell you about COVID, for that there are already doctors and health institutions, and also we have had enough.

In this post, we are going to introduce you to the wonderful world of graphic design through masks, yes, with their arrival there have been many illustrators, photographers and designers, those who have had to take out their weapons and create designs to apply them to the masks.

What are they and what are they for?

Masks are a kind of protective shield, they protect us above all from viruses that are exposed in the air or in people. Each mask that exists is designed for a specific occasion and therefore, each one of them fulfills different functions.

They protect us in such a way that they prevent these invisible enemies from coming into direct contact through our nose or mouth and protect us against possible contagion. They usually have different shapes, oval, rectangular or even round and are designed so that they can be attached to our ears.

There are many types but the most viewed currently are:

Medical masks

They are disposable masks, that is, reusable, it is estimated that their use does not exceed 24 hours and they are not very tight, they are also known as masks surgical. Its purpose is to protect the user from contact with droplets and aerosols that may contain germs. A medical mask also filters large particles into the air when the person wearing it inhales.

To make medical masks a better fit, tie or attach the elastics that go around the ears where they join the mask. Then fold the unnecessary material and put it under the edge.

N95 masks

The N95 mask is a type of respirator. It offers much more protection than a medical mask because it filters out both large and small particles when inhaled by the wearer.

Currently, N95 masks are in short supply as they are the most sought after and used, and the WHO recommends that they should be reserved for healthcare providers. Healthcare providers must train and pass an exam to confirm that the mask seals well before using an N95 mask. Like surgical masks, the N95s are intended to be disposable. But researchers are testing different ways to disinfect and reuse them.

Some N95 masks, and even some cloth masks, have one-way valves that make breathing through them easier. But unfortunately these masks do not filter the air exhaled by the person using them. For this reason they have been banned in some places.

Cloth masks

The main objective of this mask is to trap the respiratory droplets that are released when the person using it speaks, coughs, or sneezes. It can also act as a barrier to protect the wearer from inhaling airborne particles exhaled by others.

The most effective fabric masks are made with several layers of a tightly woven fabric, such as cotton. A multi-layered mask will stop more droplets and prevent them from passing through the mask or escaping.

With these masks, they also recommend a reusable use since being made of fabric does not fully provide greater security.

Mask Designers

As mentioned above, many designers have taken advantage of this new trend to propose and promote their designs even more. Among them, we can even find fashion designers.

Some of the best clothing brands have put their designs on the market and have even made catwalks to position themselves even more in the great fashion industry, and we show them below:

Star drone

Masks with creative star wars designs

If we are sure of one thing, it is that the Star Wars saga has gone down in history as one of the most viewed releases. Many illustrators have taken advantage of the success of the series to give it a twist and create new redesigns. One of them is this, where we can see one of the protagonists of the saga remote-controlling a drone. At first glance, the drone that happens to be the protagonist and that has no relationship with the saga, has managed to maintain a relationship with the message that the designer wanted to communicate.

It is undoubtedly one of the most creative designs, since it has kept the graphic line and the context of the drawings and also everything that has been added has a logical order.

Conclusion

There is no doubt that within the bad, good actions can be done to make the situation much more pleasant. And there is no doubt that the designers have achieved it with each of the proposals.

Now is the time for you to design yours.
