Roger Coll's sculptures and how we understand them

Sculpture Presentation

By looking at the different collections of Roger coll it is difficult to define specifically what "that which does" is - as he puts it. Since although, its production can be classified as sculpture; his creations go beyond simple decorative objects. This is how they become highly aesthetic objects that develop a backstory by being related to a elaborate concept.

Such concepts are developed with an approximation playful, ironic and experimental. In this way, Coll produces pieces with which the public feels identified through his intuitive and strategic use of color and form.

ceramic sculptures

In his collection «Ceramic Sculptures» the artist experiments with organic shapes of high plastic sense that comprise dynamic forms. For her she is inspired by unusual objects from which it extracts the essential form. Later, it repeats this form, repeats in modules that allow it to generate more complex structures. On the other hand, it appeals to an emotional design through the use of vibrant colors and attractive textures.

Arms and Crafts

When we analyze the artist's "Arts and Crafts" collection we see an evident humor. It arises from an undertaking that Coll carried out for a market of Christmas in Barcelona. This project began more than anything as a somewhat ironic interpretation of mass consumer products, as are mugs, milk cartons and wine bottles. However, it eventually became a production worthy of the best interior design magazines.

Collection of Talqual vessels

For the Talqual collection, Coll uses the experimentación seeking to obtain products with an intentionally lazy aesthetic. Essentially it seeks to show that formal elements such as texture and material do not necessarily have to be subject to the terms of perfection and visual cleanliness. In this way, he suggests that they can serve as expression of concepts.  In this way, it produces pots from the continuous recycling of the molds without taking care of the loss of quality of such especially in the seams and edges of the pots. Thus obtaining products with sense of recycling.
