The art of negative and positive space in the logo created by John Randall

A little less than a year ago I was commenting on the great work in the logo of the Jacob's Creek wine brand in which a great use of negative space art and positive.

Now we have another great logo design for a restaurant, The Swan & Mallard, in which John Randall, the designer, has created quite an example on how to use negative and positive space. Taking the shape of a swan that in its pose covers that of a real duck to identify in the same logo black, orange and white as the three predominant colors.

The negative space in a logo design is the one that is around between a subject within an image. A space that defines a concept such as occurs in the logo created by Randall in which white is in charge of giving the entire shape to the real duck and in which orange are the points of union for the two animals.

It is Randall himself who comments on his website, the three most important aspects that I wanted to identify and express in the logo by linking the swan and the mallard through a positive and negative space. A limited color palette and minimal style help create a well-balanced feel.

The design focuses, as Randall says, on trying create a smile in the minds of those let them see it. An excellent logo in which at a first glance the swan is seen as if it were the S for Swan, so that with a little focus on the logo, you can find the mallard looking straight at the viewer.

One of those examples that we like to bring along these lines to show that awesomeness in a logo is not so easy to find, and that it takes designers like Randall to create a unique image of a product or service.
