The capitulars and their types

Called capitulars to the largest capital letters that are placed at the beginning of the paragraphs. We must know that in capitulars, letters like Q or J can give us certain problems due to their design.

There are three different types of capitulars, the high capitulars, the torn capitulars and the crossed capitulars.

  • Drop high:

It is the simplest and the one that gives the least problems. It is created by increasing the size of the First Letter. If we have the line spacing automatic, the space that will be left below will be the space of the capitular. If it gives us problems it will be better to use the spacing manually.

  • Capitulate ripped:

In this case the capitulate occupies several lines of text and must be in the upper area aligned with the upper alignment, and below with the baseline of the last line it occupies.

In this case, between capitulate and the lines that are to its right it is recommended to leave a space of between 6 pt and 12 pt.

  • Capitulate traveled:

It is the one that usually gives the greatest problem when it comes to layoutas it depends on the letter in question. In this type, the text that is to the right of the capitulate runs through it in its form. In cases like A or W, the route is simple, but in vertical letters such as N, the route will not be noticed and it will look like a torn drop cap.
