The great artwork of Don't Starve: Shipwrecked

Do not Starve

Don's Starve is a survival game in the Minecraft style, although it differs from this one by another very different visual style in which the dream world and the strange characters they look like they are drawn by hand.

It is for this very reason that today we are going to offer a little space to artwork of the new expansion called Shiprecked that takes the player to a tropical world. A world that includes new characters, biomes, creatures, mechanics and even new effects. A visual art reflected in various foreshortenings and works by the illustrator in charge of creating that world that orbits around the protagonist

We have been fortunate to access several of the illustrations showing the first ideas with which each of the characters that later appear in their final form in the video game develops.

We are facing a game that is well known for leading very Tim Burton-style characters or called as «Burtonesque» (an approximation). So to introduce them to a more tropical world has not been as easy as it seems, so they have had to be careful not to lose that particular essence of Don't Starve. Even the previous characters have had to touch up a bit to keep up with that new update.

On the other hand, others have been integrated as well as the «Quaken» that follow that particular style but straight to the South Seas. You can find similarities between the sketches and the final result so that there are not many differences either.

The sketch for the original storyboard was solved in such a way that the food chain was used in which each character was eaten by the next most aggressive. The final version went straight to another result as you can see in the YouTube video.
