The large sculpture in Florence that hides different rooms

This epic sculpture of a colossusHalf man and half mountain, it was erected in the late 1500s by the renowned Italian sculptor Giambologna as a symbol of Italy's Apennine Mountains.

The mountain god, named as Apennines, comes to the Meters 10 on the surface of the Vila de Pratolino in Tuscany. This gigantic statue hides a wonderful secret inside with a series of several rooms with different functions that allowed this colossus to be erected in this special place.

The giant holds in his left hand a water fountain coming from an underground stream. Thanks to a model we can get to know the rooms inside it up close, apart from what are a series of photographs taken right there.

This is located in the Pratolino Park, one one of the most beautiful in the region surrounding Florence. Although most of the town and park have been destroyed, with some monuments still standing, one can imagine the beauty and magic that it must have been in its time.

The Colossus of the Apennines is created in stone and clay and it once had several frescoes that decorated the rooms that are inside.

A particular park to walk through to find that sculpture that is presented to the passerby withn all the strength of his pose and how it maintains that natural source of water as if it were protecting it in some way. A whole sculpture of great dimensions by which in its recesses are several instances that still endure in time, although a long time has passed since it was created by the Italian artist Giambologna.
