Last Thursday, Prince, a exceptional multi-talented artist known to many for his distinctive voice but that on the guitar he had simply sublime gifts. A singer, guitarist and dancer who had a great predilection for that particular purple color of some of his songs such as the emblematic Purple Rain.
We are going to carry out a little tribute with those different hairstyles that were changing throughout his life defining his creative capacity and great talent to leave us songs that have illustrated those years 80 and 90. A year in which David Bowie has also left us, another great multi-faceted and chameleonic artist.
Like Bowie, Prince was a master of reinventing himself and go mutating over the years without losing its own essence. He changed his name at least seven times and has played different genres throughout his life.
Today I have known that Prince could put out a new album every year for the next hundred. Their creativity and innate ability is such that their mark will continue with us for many decades, since as with the vast majority of artists, they are usually more recognized when we know that we will no longer have that source of inspiration to take us to other tones and other songs.
And it is that we not only talked about his facets in music, but he was also an actor, director and producer. A curious fact that has to do with his style, another of his great qualities with that purple that was so close to him, is that changed hairstyle 36 times from 1978 to 2013.
As you can see in Gary Card's illustrations, Prince always had fashion and style as something very vital in their life. And it is not that he followed trends, but that he devised them or went to other different places, something that also defined him as an artist.
Un artist and musician who will continue to inspire hundreds in the coming decades and that in its Purple Rain we can find that nostalgia for these days in his absence.
