Optical illusions take us to other places to interpret reality from another point of view or from a magic trick that leaves us at times thinking about what has happened or how what we have seen before our eyes has happened. Art makes use of these effects a lot to represent figures or interpret an original and creative concept.
It's the same thing that urban artist and photographer JR is looking for, who recently unveiled an optical trick from a master of magic. Over the course of several days, the creative mind of this artist managed to disappear the Pyramid of the Louvre Museum to turn it into the facade of the Louvre Museum that is behind itself. Through the use of oversized photographic prints, JR was able to create this optical illusion on a large scale.
Created for his new show JR au Louvre, the installation serves to encourage viewers to be part of an active role when looking at creative work. To properly understand the piece, it requires that one move to the correct angle and from there the work can be properly appreciated in its entirety.
This room is designed to challenge your audience to participate in their own art. When using a black and white photo collage, JR distinguishes the imaginary from others that is capable of invading the daily public space.
By making one of the most photographed monuments in the world disappear, JR causes the effect of reflect ideas of cultural symbols in terms of identity. As he explains, his dramatic intervention highlights the question of the role of images in the era of globalization and the intimate sphere of their massive use.
