Photoshop video tutorial: Tears of blood (characterization)

http://youtu.be/ST6eK64vzoY

Another very dark effect that we can add to our characters is that of bruises, paleness, and bloody / black tears. For this we will use tools and options that we have been using for some time, and also the pack of drops / tears brushes that I proposed in a previous article.

The steps are very simple and you can follow them here:

  • We will make the skin of this girl much paler, for this we will create a new layer and select a grayish front color (# C1C1C1) and with a fairly blurred brush we will ink the entire skin area, it does not matter if it is not precise, later we can perfect it with the eraser tool. We will apply a blending mode and opacity of about 50% to this layer.
  • We will go to the original image and with the tool underexpose We will work in a range of midtones with 40% intensity. We will influence the area of dark circles, the corners of the lips and the neck.
  • With the eraser, we will eliminate the limits of the eyes, with a fairly diffuse brush and we will act on the layer that we have tinted gray and we have given it a blending mode in tone.
  • We will apply bruises with a reddish foreground color (# 5c0000), we will work on the eye, mouth and neck area and give it a blending mode in soft light and we will apply a gaussian filter with an approximate amount of ten pixels.
  • We will combine all the layers and with the tool underexpose We will act on the mid-tone range and with an intensity of 40%.
  • We will apply tears of blood with our special brushes. We will do it on a layer and with a reddish color (# 5c0000), we will give it a blending mode in soft light. We will duplicate and this time give you a blending mode in overlay. We will duplicate for the last time and we will give it fusion mode in multiply.
  • We will play with the opacity of these layers if necessary.

Easy right?
