Video Tutorial: Charcoal Effect in Adobe Photoshop + Free Pack of Brushes

Charcoal-effect

El charcoal provides results with a wide range of tones that cover subtlety from the softest to the blackest, deepest and hardest. It is a material that is characterized by its instability and therefore becomes an element easily moldable through finger rub or blur. This was the first technique that man used in drawing and today it is still present in the hands of graphic artists. Today, we have the possibility of obtaining a tremendously realistic result with design applications and digital photo manipulation.

In today's video we are going to see how we can apply our charcoal effect from the Adobe Photoshop application. For this we will play with the adjustment layers tool (specifically the one for motifs) and we will also use an exclusive pack of brushes (You can download it for free from this link) that will help us to texturize, to obtain a 100% realistic result. The technique that we will follow will be the following:

  • We will import our photography and provide it with higher contrast through the curve and level adjustments if we deem it necessary.
  • We will create a pattern adjustment layer and we will select one of the modalities that imitate the texture of the paper.
  • We will create a layer mask on the original photograph and we will invert it.
  • Then we will choose one of the brushes from our pack and play with the opacity to create contrasts.
  • We will use the tools of overexpose and underexpose if we see it necessary.

Easy right?

Hello, I would like to do the tutorial but just last night I downloaded brushes in 4shared and the download came with a search engine, Mystartsearch, it is extremely invasive, my pc was contaminated in a barbaric way, I am still suffering consequences despite doing everything what they recommended, even using the cleaner. I'm afraid to download them.

In the pack of brushes that you have left in the tutorial video, there are not the ones you use at the end of the video, could you tell me where you got them from, or send them to me?

    Thank you
