What is and how to use Adobe Kuler

What-is-and-how-to-use-Adobe-Kuler

Adobe Kuler is an online application that the boys of Adobe System make available to humanity free of charge. This application is used to create Swatches, or Color Palettes or Color Games, in short, it gives you 5 colors that go with one that you choose as the base color. Great isn't it? ...

Today I am going to present the online application and how to start working with it, and in a future tutorial I will teach you to work in other ways with this magnificent application. Without further ado I leave you with the entrance, What is and how to use the Adobe Kuler.

In a previous tutorial, How to create brushes in Adobe Photoshop, gave you more information about Photoshop's drawing tools. Take a look that you will surely like.

We are going to choose a color that we will obtain using the Drop Counter tool and we are going to draw a range of matching colors from Adobe Kuler, to later apply it on a canvas.

  1. We open Photoshop and choose the Eyedropper tool.
  2. We go to some image and we get a color from it with the Eyedropper. I have chosen the cover image, and from it, the blue of the Kuler logo.
  3. Once we obtain the color, seeing it in the front color box, we enter the Color Picker and look for the hexadecimal number. We copy it in the clipboard by doing CNTRL + C
  4. We go to the Adobe Kuler page.
  5. We are looking for the Chromatic Roulette.
  6. We headed to one of the five boxes below it, specifically the one with a triangle-shaped arrow pointing up, which designates it as the base color. It will be the color of the middle box.
  7. We paste the hexadecimal in its corresponding box, where it says Hex. We hit the enter key.
  8. We will already have a game of five colors in perfect harmony.
  9. We test the different color rules that the application offers us as a preset.
  10. We stay with the one we like the most.
  11. Now let's take it to Photoshop.
  12. We name the color palette and we give it to save.
  13. It will take us to a new screen, where we will have apart from the five saved colors that make up that range, a menu of options.
  14. Click on the download option.
  15. Once downloaded, we put it in a folder in My Documents with the name of Colors.
  16. We go to Photoshop, more specifically to the Swatches palette.
  17. We click on the upper right corner of the palette to get the options menu.
  18. We choose the option Load Samples.
  19. We go to our color folder. In the lower part of the load dialog box, in the Type option, which is under the Name option, we choose the type of file to load. We choose the Sample Exchange, which has the ASE file extension.
  20. We load the file containing our range.
  21. Well, we already have it in the Samples palette. To work with it has been said.

Well here we end this tutorial. Soon I'll bring another one with more Kuler options. I hope it has been useful for you, and that if you have doubts or questions, do them freely either through the comments of the Video tutorial or through our Facebook page.

Thanks and regards.
