What is the color cast and how to remove it?

what-is-the-dominant-color

Color cast is a visual "feature" that appears very frequently in the world of photography. On many occasions it is a desired effect and provoked, but at other times it is a default that robs us of veracity and destroys the real (and desired nature of our composition).

As you already know, we say that there is a color cast in a photograph or composition when there is a predominance or general presence of a color cast in an image, especially in neutral tones or in areas where these nuances should not be present. An ordinary person would think that our photographs are yellowish, bluish or greenish, however the professional of photography and design will speak of a yellow, blue or green dominant. As we have already said, not all dominants are bad, unwanted or the result of a mistake. In many cases it is something totally natural, such as in a sunset, where natural reds predominate and everything is fruit of enlightenment from the moment the photograph is taken.

In the cases in which it is a defect or a feature that we intend to correct, obviously we can carry out a restoration process with any computer design application such as Photoshop, but it is always recommended that we try to avoid this defect at the time of capture. Either with camera calibration or with the use of tools and instruments that help us to correct the lighting on our stage.
