Music is the universal source of inspiration. It is one of those arts that do not require prior knowledge to be able to capture the essence of its message because it is a universal language. On graphic designers and other artists, music has a brutal impact not only on a personal level, but on a professional level. In that sense, graphic designers tend to be very "special" or meticulous. We work with images and we are able to perceive suggestions and nuances in songs with an amazing level of detail. Many of you will know as well as I that many times songs activate images in our imagination and become the basis of a new work or artistic project. We listen to a song and it suddenly suggests an image, a scene, a person, a color or an object.
Choosing what music we listen to becomes an important factor and one that will surely end up being reflected sooner or later in your way of designing. Is about something very personal and each one clings to the style and genre that suits him best. I personally try to listen to a great variety of musical genres and styles because I believe that each one of them brings me new information, new knowledge or at least new ways of perceiving images and the world.
When we talk about songs, we talk about emotions inked by the greatness of the sound that inevitably surrounds us and seems to insert us in a parallel dimension, a suitable setting or setting to let ourselves be carried away and fantasize or reflect. A place where we feel unique and with the ability to create and build all kinds of images, texts, ideas and concepts. Like architecture, cinema (of which we already talked on some occasion by collecting essential films), photography, painting or theater ... Music is an unconditional part of our way of perceiving the world, interpreting it and of course representing it.
Below I would like to share with you a selection of more than 50 songs (I know that there are many that I leave in the inkwell) that personally inspire me a lot and that lately I usually listen when I start designing or working on anything. Of course, I would also like to receive recommendations from you if you think there is a song that deserves to be on this list and that can be inspiring. At the end of the day, what it is about is to find incentives that help us to get better things from ourselves and that inspire or guide us through the fantastic path of creation.
