If you model your texts with InDesignYou will know that when facing a large project it is very important to know as many keyboard shortcuts as possible (at least the most common ones).
Next we show you little tricks with the most basic keyboard shortcuts that you may not know and that, even if it seems otherwise, using them will save you a lot of time in the construction of your project.
8 Tips for InDesign
- For create a new document, press the Cmd + Alt + N keys (this shortcut also works in Photoshop and Illustrator).
- For save all documents that you have open in InDesign in their existing locations and with the same name, press Cmd + Alt + Fn + S.
- Double-click with the Selection tool on the text to use the Text tool and press the Esc key to return to the Selection tool.
- If the text autocorrect when you're working, you can turn it on (in CS4 and CS5 editions at least) in the Edit> Spelling menu. If AutoCorrect doesn't immediately turn on, try unchecking and rechecking the corresponding box in InDesign> Preferences> AutoCorrect (Windows: Edit> Preferences> AutoCorrect).
- If you want to increase or decrease the font size To fill a specific area, select it and press Opt + Up Arrow Key to increase the size and Opt + Down Arrow Key to decrease it. If it doesn't work for you, check that you have the selected text (not the box: the text that is inside) and try to previously click with the cursor on the dialog box that indicates the font size.
- For manipulate kerning, select the text and press Opt + Right keyboard arrow key (to space) and Opt + Left arrow key (to merge). Windows: Alt + left / right arrows.
- If you need keep two words together In the same line, press Cmd + Opt + X (Windows: Ctrl + Alt + x) instead of the space bar to separate the words.
- To insert a column jump At the cursor position, press the Enter key on the numeric keypad. If you don't have a numeric keypad, go to the Text> Insert Jump Character> Column Break menu.
