Fight of the Titans in Ben Heine's 'Pencil vs Camera' series

Pencil vs Camera

I remember when I was studying at ESDIP in 2002 when we gave 3D with 3D Studio Max, that there were still some classmates who were a bit reluctant to 3D animation It was beginning to show what it has become to this day.

Una battle between traditional animation and digital that can also be transferred to what is photography and paper as in this series presented by Ben Heine and which he has called 'Pencil vs Camera'. A mixed technique at the end of the day that shows us the pencil drawing of the same scene photographed and brilliantly mixed.

New formats and tools have made their way breaking into the plastic arts more traditional. Going back to those talks, I remember well one of my colleagues who said that traditional animation would never be surpassed by 3D and that it was only a matter of days. Now most of the animated films created by the big studios are made in 3D.

Pencil vs Camera

For this reason, the series created by Heine mixes those clashes between two worlds, one older and one newer. In different photographs and with different drawings he mixes different scenes to open a great combination before us and combine these two very different techniques that are reunited in his series.

Pencil vs Camera

Una nice way to join what are two worlds that are separated but that are almost rotating on the same, artistic creation and the desire to express messages and tell stories.
