WordPress 3.9 analysis

WordPress analysis

Those of us who have a site set up on WordPress We have had a series of intermediate updates in recent weeks until the most significant one has seen the light today: 3.9.

This well-known CMS comes to the remake, called "Smith" in honor of Jazz organist Jimmy Smith, with changes especially in the visual editor that will be to our liking. Do we review them one by one and assess them with a short analysis?

Doing a WordPress 3.9 analysis

We recommend that you update your website whenever a new consistent WordPress version comes out: fundamentally, by itself site security. To do it correctly and avoid any errors that can cause you to run out of the web in the most absurd way, follow the guidelines for backing up from your database, export all the content of the site and make a copy via FTP of all your folders.

And by consistent I mean the versions that bring solutions to security holes and big changes. The prudential, always, is wait a certain time Before launching to update: keep in mind that the plugins that you have installed must also be updated to be able to adapt to the news of WordPress, and this does not always happen immediately.

I really liked the redesign of the whole WordPress 3.8 interface, which gave it new airs and gave us the possibility of customizing the most hidden part dedicated to management with the range of colors with which we were most closely related. There were changes at the level of icons, fonts and colors, which made the administrator's task more pleasant.

In this new version of WordPress, from my point of view, they have returned to us give comfort administrators and editors shaking hands with the visual editor. Do we see what there is?

  • Speed and accessibility: from any device.
  • Automatic debugging: paste text directly from Microsoft Word. The editor will take care of cleaning it.
  • Direct image editing: in true Word style, rescale and rotate seeing the results in real time.
  • Drag and drop: upload images by dragging them from your desktop to the visual editor, without having to access the image upload icon.
  • Visible Image Gallery: Fixed an issue that made me quite uncomfortable. Now you won't have to wait to publish the post to be able to see how the image gallery will look in the article.
  • Displays audio and video playlists

My experience at the moment is the following:

  • I have not noticed a big difference from the editor speed visual, it responds to me in the same way as before (in fact, it had not given me any problem with the previous versions).
  • I usually use open source programs, so instead of Microsoft Word I use Open Office. And I haven't noticed the "code cleanup”When pasting rich text into a post: for example, the   to indicate a break in the text. I don't know if the debugging is noticeable in Word.
  • I love the following points, I have nothing to object. Writing in WordPress is much more intuitive, it facilitates the layout of the texts and in particular the treatment of images. Needless to say about the preview of the image galleries, as it was very awkward (and weird) not being able to see them instantly.

Besides the changes to the visual editor, what else does WordPress 3.9 bring?

  • Live header widgets and previews: you won't have to save every time you make a change to see the final result. Save only when you are sure that is what you want.
  • Edit your headers: upload your image, crop and modify from the customizer itself.
  • Friendliest Theme Finder - Make it easy to search so you don't get lost among the thousands of free themes out there.

And you, what do you think about the changes? Leave us your impressions.
